Genes
The genes within the DNA of the individual provide the brain’s main highways for energy to travel. They provide the principle neural wiring that’s needed for learning and growth. Al- though these genes lay a foundation for the ability to learn and grow, they do not determine the success and achievement of an individual’s abilities in their lifetime. Many can overcome the disadvantage of an average genetic coding, and achieve greatness from their approach and will to live life.
The Experience of Life
The environment that provides life’s experiences provides the foundation for which the brains learn and grow. These life experiences attract the events, people, circumstances and conditions that determine and influence the growth of the brain and the individual understanding of learn- ing itself.
Specific events and situations will have a direct impact on the growing brain. There are six key conditions that should be studied and researched when working with the brain.
The “Brain Responsive” Concept
Which strategies are effective when teaching to the brain? Which are not?
Every educator, parent, coach and leader uses a variety of strategies and tactics. The purpose of this site is to provide key distinctions about what strategies and tactics create responses with our brain’s natural design for learning and what strategies and tactics don’t. The ones that are “brain responsive,” you’ll want to keep and use more often. You’ll want to strongly modify or drop the ones that are “brain antagonistic.”
Brain Responsive Learning
Brain responsive learning is a research based, multidisciplinary approach to the question of how our brain learns and responds best. We must investigate and implement the best, most effective strategies to use with individuals we teach, parent, coach and lead.
It may require insights from a variety of sciences including: anatomy, biochemistry, genetics, immunology, physiology, neurology, technology, psychology, anthropology and medicine. As information becomes available in a wide variety of disciplines, we must take into consideration the sum of these disciplines and provide the most comprehensive and accurate framework we have for learning thus far.
